Extra Moss Wall Workshop Curriculum

Description

This workshop brings colorful elements and varied textures from the natural world into the hands of our Creators. Giving Makers the opportunity to hold, manipulate, arrange, and design elements to create something beautiful will develop in them an appreciation for nature. We want to encourage students to have a sensitivity to the natural elements, which are readily accessible around them and are excellent for fostering curiosity and wonder. Additionally, by interacting with nature, students can recognize the positive feelings they experience (biophilia effect). The Moss Wall display will be an excellent reminder of nature’s beauty and the role students can play in bringing this beauty to the forefront for others to appreciate.

The curriculum provides discussion points related to moss and plantscaping in various settings. It covers the biology of living moss, and related vocabulary words, and introduces the Design Process.  The procedures for designing and assembling these beautiful pieces of natural art are outlined in the guide. Also included are inspirational photos. There are additional discussion and extension activities to expand the learning beyond the workshop. The learning is all hands-on, allowing students to experience the biology education.
